Search Input Guidelines

  • The Search Input can be used for both starting a search query (the user is taken to a search results page after submitting keywords) and filtering (content on the page changes as keywords are entered).
  • Place the Search Input at the top of the content area the user can search. If it's the whole page, place it as high up as possible. If it's a list in a smaller container, place it above the list.
  • The placeholder text should imply what the Search Input will do, e.g. "Search in table", "Filter list", "Filter Tactics".
  • Conventionally, site-wide search inputs are displayed at the top right corner of an interface, but you don't have to follow this convention for SAP Engagement Cloud products: the Search Input can be aligned to the left.
