Search Input Guidelines

General Guidelines

  • The Search Input can be used for both starting a search query (the user is taken to a search results page after submitting the keywords) and filtering (content on the page is changed as the keywords are entered).
  • Place the Search Input at the top of the content area the user can search. If it's the whole page, then as high up on the page as possible. If it's a list in a smaller container, then above the list.
  • The placeholder text should imply what the Search Input will do, e.g. "Search in table", "Filter list", "Filter Tactics".
  • Conventionally, site-wide search inputs are displayed at the top right corner of an interface, but you don't have to stick to this convention for Emarsys products: the Search Input can be aligned to the left.
